Luncheon of the Boating Party

line2.png

Renoir's Lunch of the Boat Party is an impressionist painting depicting a group of friends hanging out at a diner along the river Seine. The subjects are the socialite friends of the painter himself. Consequently, the space mimics the color scheme as well as the atmosphere of the painting. The interior is meant to create a warm but exclusive, as well as a playful yet sophisticated environment. Just by looking at the painting, you would be able to hear the chatters, the clinking of glasses, the utensils clashing against the plates, the pouring of wine, and maybe some light music. The painting illustrates a crowded environment but by looking at each one of them, you could tell that they're comfortable and at ease. Thus, the interior is comprised of playful elements that are inspired by the way the characters were possibly influenced by wine.

The greeneries on the background of the painting were represented by the hand-painted chinoiserie wallpaper, its darkness also evokes an intimate environment for the users. The furnishings that were chosen to encourage the users to be comfortable just like how the subjects were laid back. The conspicuous color pink on the painting is, in contrast, subtly represented by various elements such as the curtain, the flowers, and the area rug. The layout used is used to accommodate quite a number of people and the main idea is to have friends over. Moreover, the idea is to use a traditional layout, namely the Local Symmetry, and is fused with modern elements.
